Company History
77 Years of Experience
Salmon Earthmoving was founded in 1946, with Peter Salmon initially serving the timber and logging industry.
In the early 1970’s, Peter’s eldest son, Gary, soon took a keen interest in helping his father and started Salmon Earthmoving Services. Gary expanded the business in the 1970’s to become a major service provider to the Resources and Construction Industries along the east coast of Australia. During this time, Salmon Earthmoving became a recognized and respected entity in the field of equipment rental that has continued until today.
During expansion into the Mining and Construction areas, Gary’s sons, Nick and Chris also joined the Management team and Chris now heads-up the company.
In late 2021, the Australian arm of Salmon Earthmoving was purchased by Sime Darby Industrial Australia Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad.
Sime Darby’s investment in Salmon is a huge vote of confidence in the business and will help us achieve our growth ambitions, building on our almost 77 year legacy of providing excellent service to our customers.

NO HARM
We are committed to not harming our people, each other, the environment, our communities or the interests of our owners. We take personal responsibility to always protect the health and safety of ourselves, our colleagues and others as we do our work. We will call out poor behaviour no matter who is involved. We will always ensure work can take place safety. If our work can’t be made safe, we will stop the work until it can be done safely.

We respect individual endeavour and that every-one at Salmon be given the opportunity to be fulfilled and treated well. We will treat our customers, ourselves and our colleagues with respect. We will not tolerate bullying or offensive behaviour. We respect diversity, that is, the things about us that make us different from one another including gender, ethnicity, disability, age, race sexual orientation, marital status and more.
Integrity
We hold ourselves accountable to deliver results. We deliver on our promises and commitments. We will do what we say we will do. We will always be truthful and not cover things up. We will own our mistakes and learn from them. We have personal responsibility to uphold the Salmon name in the market. It is both our legacy and our future.
Flexibility
We will always do what we can to deliver total customer satisfaction keeping an eye on profitability. We are ‘can do’, meaning we can make well thought through decisions quickly and can execute to a high standard, at short notice. We have an entrepreneurial spirit and eagerly seek opportunities to grow the business and deliver total customer satisfaction.
Relationships
We are easy and always fair to deal with. Our customers trust us and they come back to us time and again because we understand their needs and deliver on our promises. There is mutual respect because we are both in this for the long haul.
When our customers are successful, then we are too. Being owned by Sime Darby since 2021 changes none of this. The personal touch will remain. We do however have significantly stronger backing that will allow us to do things for our customers we could not have contemplated before.
